Opis:
The article presents the results of research on the use of an axial flux in the diagnostics of induction motor stator winding fed by a frequency converter. Voltage signal waveforms proportional to the axial flux were recorded during motor operation under various conditions and were analyzed with regard to the detection of stator winding short circuits. The taps of the selected coil turns of stator phases were introduced into the tested motor, which allowed to physical modelling inter-turn short circuits. The structure and operation of the computer system used to monitor the state of induction motor windings were discussed. The developed diagnostic system was made in the National Instruments LabVIEW environment. The analysis of faults of the axial flux was made in the detection of induction motor stator winding. The results of experimental research conducted using the developed diagnostic system have also been presented.

Opis:
This article constitutes an introductory part of the special section on Intelligent Fault Monitoring and Fault-Tolerant Control in Power Electronics, Drives and Renewable Energy Systems. In the current issue of the journal, the first part of this section is published. Accepted articles are focussed mainly on the sensor-fault diagnosis methods for T-type inverter-fed dual- three phase PMSM drives, partial demagnetization, faults of the permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and online open phase fault detection (FD) in the sensorless five-phase induction motor drive implemented with an inverter output LC filter and third harmonic injection. Also, neural networks (NN) application in the detection of stator and rotor electrical faults of induction motors has been proposed in one of the papers, and the observer-based FD concept for unknown systems using input–output measurements was applied to a brushless direct current motor drive with unknown parameters.

Opis:
Due to the external disturbances, model uncertainties, strong coupling, and occurred faults, the winding machine presents a great control challenge. In order to deal with these problems, this paper presents the formulation of a novel scheme of fault tolerant control (FTC) for three-motor web-winding systems; it is concerned with the nonlinear robust backstepping control based on the combination of RST and backstepping controllers where the process is modelled by a nonlinear model. The main contribution of the paper is that the approach developed here summarises the performance of RST and backstepping controllers in order to design a robust controller capable of eliminating external disturbances and sensor faults affecting the system. The stability of the whole system is proven using the Lyapunov theory. Finally, analysis in comparison with the conventional backstepping controller and simulations in the MATLAB environment are accomplished to confirm the efficiency of the proposed method.

Opis:
This paper proposes data-based fault detection methods for an electromechanical actuator (EMA) with a brushed DC motor. The jam and winding short faults are considered in the study as the most prominent EMA faults. The fault detection is based on evaluating the properties of the motor current, considering the basic electromechanical parameters of EMAs. The main advantages are a non-intrusive approach utilising a commonly accessible motor current measurement, simple configurability, and the ability to detect faults under varying operation modes of EMA, including changes of speed, load, or movement profiles. The proposed methods have been evaluated with a custom testing system, and the results have proven the performance of the proposed approach to detect faults under varying operating conditions in industrial applications.

HTS 2G superconducting tapes without stabilizer are used for the construction of superconducting fault current limiters. The characteristics R =f(T) of the su-perconducting tape is essential for design of superconducting current limiters and analysis of their numerical models. The article presents the experimentally determined characteristics R=f(T) of the second ge-neration superconducting tapes SF4050 and SF12050 using the LabVIEW integrated environment. The article describes the method of sample preparation and methodology of testing of HTS 2G superconducting tapes. The LabVIEW integrated environment was used for the testing, thanks to which it was possible to download, process and save measurement data.

The paper presents the causes of the commutator serial motor failure shortly after it becomes operational. The repair was made after long-term use in hard conditions of exploitation, requiring a large current overload. Knowledge of the causes of the failure should be a warning against reducing the scope of the repair work.
W artykule przedstawiono przyczyny awarii silnika komutatorowego szeregowego wkrótce po przeprowadzonym remoncie. Remont ten został wykonany po długotrwałym okresie eksploatacji w ciężkich warunkach pracy, wymagających znacznych przeciążeń prądowych. Znajomość przyczyn awarii powinna być przestrogą przed ograniczaniem zakresu prac remontowych.

Opis:
The oil-cooled back-wound high-speed permanent magnet generator (OBHPMG), is suitable for the aerospace field, gas turbines, and flywheel energy storage due to its high efficiency as well as high-power density. However, the high-power density operation of the generator inevitably results in a significant temperature rise, particularly when inter-turn short circuit faults (ISCFs) occur in the windings. In order to clarify the electromagnetic as well as thermal characteristics of the OBHPMG under the different ISCF degrees, it is of great significance to research the electromagnetic and temperature field variation characteristics of the generator at various inter-turn short circuit faults degrees. Firstly, the electromagnetic field of the 40 kW OBHPMG is investigated at normal operating in this paper, the rotor eddy current densities as well as stator core magnetic flux densities distribution is determined. Secondly, based on the model of the generator ISCF, the effects of the winding different ISCF degrees on the rotor eddy current densities and stator core magnetic flux densities are further explored in detail. The variation characteristics of the rotor current loss as well as stator core magnetic flux densities under the winding different ISCF degrees are revealed. Finally, the effect of the different ISCF degrees on the windings and permanent magnets temperature is analyzed in depth by combining the variation mechanism of the electromagnetic loss. The temperature variation characteristics of the OBHPMG with the different ISCF degrees are obtained, and the cooling effect of the OBHPMG under the ISCF is clarified. It provides a theoretical basis for clearly mastering the variations in the performance of the generator under the windings ISCF in this paper.
