Opis:
The aim of the paper is to present the concept of the integrated system dedicated for communication and remote operation of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). In the paper the concept and realization of this kind of wireless communications system is presented. The system consists of two integrated solutions – unidirectional broadcast transmission of video, audio and data from UAV to the operators within the mobile command centre and two‐way communication with the telemetry and control subsystem. The systems are integrated within the single chassis and placed on the UAV to ensure proper operation of the flying robot. The specific elements of the system are presented as well as main requirements and connected with them development methods are also discussed in the paper.

Opis:
The paper addresses the issue of offering hands‐on engineering labs via the web. The hands‐on feature refers to the functionality of the lab, which is preserved whether the lab experiments are done over the web or with student’s physical presence in the lab. After an extensive review of remote labs, examples of lab stations are described from the area of software engineering, where software development is done remotely and then software modules are uploaded and tested on the lab stations. This type of lab can be called invasive, since the essential element of an experiment is the replacement or modification of the software module controlling the remote equipment. This is in contrast to regular remote labs, which are non‐invasive. Two lab stations are presented in more detail, one for a wireless sensor network and another for a remotely accessible microcontroller. Several observations are made regarding the usefulness of this technology and prospects of adoption in software engineering programs.

Opis:
This article review lessons learned from the uses of radio-frequency (RF) spectrum at national and international scales. Its main purpose is to stimulate debate on how to allow new wireless systems to operate, and to reduce the chronic apparent shortage of RF spectrum. The article aims at a better understanding of the mechanisms behind spectrum management and their pertinence to the public interest. The main contributions if the article are: • Considering RF spectrum management as a construct that structures radio services and, at the same time, distributes wealth and power; • Highlighting major doctrines of RF spectrum management; • Promoting spectrum management directly by its users; • Promoting cooperation and transparency. The several parts of the paper include the evolution of spectrum exploitation, and a foreseeable future by taking a closer look at major dilemmas and challenges. The paper ends with general comments and conclusions.

The article presents a high gain WAT microstrip antenna designed for 5G communication systems operating in the 38 GHz band. The antenna concerned has a compact structure with dimensions of 5. 16× 5. 05 mm. Rogers RT5880 laminate with a dielectric coefficient of 2. 2 and a thickness of 0. 254 mm was used as its substrate. The antenna works at a center frequency of 38 GHz and is characterized by a low reflection coefficient of – 29 .11 dB, a high energy gain of 7. 61 dB and a wide operating band of 1 .21 GHz (3. 18%). The paper presents an analysis of the simulation results and measurements of the device’s electrical parameters and radiation patterns.

Opis:
Przedmiotem pracy jest system badania i analizy chodu. Pomiary przyspieszeń wykonywane są w różnych punktach anatomicznych z wykorzystaniem trójosiowych czujników przyspieszenia, transmisja danych odbywa się w standardzie Bluetooth, a do akwizycji wykorzystano przenośny komputer. Oprogramowanie służące do zapisu, przetwarzania i analizy danych zostało napisane w środowisku LabVIEW. Badania chodu przeprowadzono na 17 ochotnikach. Uzyskano parametry związane ze zdarzeniami w cyklu chodu, a także wysokie wartości czułości (91-94%) i specyficzności (88-89%) detekcji zdarzeń oraz satysfakcjonującą wartość parametru %R&R (16%).
Gait analysis provides useful information about spatio-temporal parameters [10, 11], stability and balance [7], progression of the diseases (Parkinson, Huntington) [7, 8], results of rehabilitation [6] or shock attenuation [7, 9]. The paper describes the accelerometer-based system designed for motion and gait examination. The system consists of two measurement modules with triaxial ADXL accelerometers (Tab. 1), portable computer and software implemented in LabVIEW environment. The system features data transmission via a Bluetooth network and during examination the data is received on a portable computer, visualized on a graph and written in a text file (Fig. 2). The text file has a special header which contains information about the examined person, anatomical axes and a name of the place of module attachment. The all information is introduced by a user at the beginning of the examination. After signal processing, several parameters are calculated: mean duration of the gait cycle, mean duration of swing and stance phases in percentage of the gait cycle, acceleration range (Fig. 1, Tab. 2) [15]. Detection of gait cycle events (heel strike, toe off) is based on the analysis of local extremes of the parameter RSS (Formula 1) [16]. For every anatomical point there is also visualized a graph with accelerations for the whole mean gait cycle (Fig. 4). At the end of data analysis, an examination report as a Microsoft Word document file is prepared. System tests were performed on 17 volunteers (Fig. 3) who underwent gait examination. Depending on the goal, only one or both modules were used. There were different places of module attachment: ankles, knees, hips, sacrum, neck and head. High values of sensitivity (91-94%) and specificity (88-89%) of event detection as well as satisfactory value of %R&R parameter (16%) were obtained.

Opis:
This article presents a consistent solution of Transmit Power Control in centralized (clustered) wireless network with and without jamming. Depending on the policy assumed, appropriate solutions are applied to minimize the power used in a system or to satisfy expected Quality of Service. Because of specific nature of the system there is no optimal solution which can be applied in practice. Correctness and effectiveness of four proposed Transmit Power Control algorithms was presented in the form of computer simulation results in which the system capacity, mean power used and the number of successful links were described.

Opis:
Extreme loading events associated with climatic conditions can have a severe impact on building structures and may lead to local damage that can trigger the instant failure or progressive collapse. One of the most effective tools of safety assurance is to install an efficient structural health monitoring system that could inform about the actual state of the structure and warn in advance about forthcoming dangerous situations. In this paper, the WiSeNeMONIT monitoring system is presented together with its pilot installation. The system was customized for the purpose of monitoring of a large span steel roof and installed in the hypermarket located in north-east of Poland. The data recorded from the system devices are evaluated for periods between December 2011 and February 2013, and presented in the paper together with some practical observations.

Purpose: The useful data and information during the sand compaction process steps should be collected. Direct measurement methods of the sand mould properties during the actual moulding process are not adopted yet. Design/methodology/approach: In this work, a remote control system [1] have been integrated into a new flowability sensor [2]. Findings: To overcome the complexity of the tools and equipment that existed in laboratory, and in foundry. Research limitations/implications: In order to investigate, and control behavior of the moulding process of bentonite-bonded green sand process, the sensors have been equipped with the Bluetooth technology for a wireless transmission of the measured data to computers. Originality/value: This technique contributes to improve of the compaction process based on the non-destructive tests, enhances prediction of the optimum parameter conditions, and reduced the energy, and the compaction time consumed for the green sand moulding process.

The paper presents the concept of a new approach for remote control and monitoring of parameters of mobile or stationary machines in real time on the example of the hydrostatic transmission drive test stand. The proposed system control and monitoring is the mobile system which is closely related with the three applications written in a different programming languages, such as: java (Android) – mobile application runs on the tablet, C language – server application joins xPC Target with tablet, PHP – admin panel to manage mobile control platform. Controlling of the hydrostatic drive stand is implemented using an application installed on the tablet. This application is connected with computer’s real-time (xPC Target) module, generated in Matlab. The computer with xPC Target is equipped with a measuring-control card, to which the control signals are transmitted. This hardware-software component plays the connecting role between machine and operator of the mobile platform installed on the tablet. The application allows observe important parameters such as pressure, volumetric flow rate, temperature, velocity, torque in real-time, as well as, it enable, by use of special graphic slider on the tablet’s screen, to set control parameters such as: speed of electric motor, the opening and switching positions of the directional valve, as well as, setting the load by pressure relief valve. Based on this system research related to the verification of system operation were performed for different setting of the hydrostatic transmission drive speed controller, and selected results are presented in the paper.

Omówione zostały podstawowe parametry systemu, jego architektura oraz możliwości jego zastosowania przez przedsiębiorstwo energetyczne do komunikacji głosowej i transmisji danych zarówno w celu łączności dyspozytorskiej, komunikacji bezpośredniej między pracownikami, jak i w telemetrii, telekontroli i w zdalnym sterowaniu obiektami sieci elektroenergetycznej.
