Opis:
The article presents the results of the research on the level of implementation of Lean instruments in the ceramics industry. The research was carried out in ceramic factories in Poland and Germany. Based on the results obtained, the most commonly used Lean instruments in the ceramics industry were defined. The dependence of the use of Lean instruments on the size of the enterprise was also determined. It was established that the Lean activities undertaken in the ceramics industry are focused solely on the implementation of individual methods and tools, without a pre-defined goal. This approach in the ceramics industry is ineffective, but unfortunately it is most often used in the implementation of the Lean philosophy, especially in small ceramics enterprises.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the extent of Lean Management implementation in Polish manufacturing enterprises that declare the adoption of the lean philosophy. The study also aimed to identify areas for further development and provide practical recommendations for companies seeking to enhance their Lean Management practices. Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing a survey of Polish manufacturing enterprises to assess the degree of implementation of Lean Management principles in key areas such as customer relationships, supplier relationships, employee engagement, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and pull/flow processes. The comprehensive survey covered a wide range of Lean Management practices and was administered online to a sample of Polish manufacturing enterprises. Data from the survey was analyzed using a variety of statistical techniques, including descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The data was used to identify patterns and trends in Lean implementation practices. Findings: The results of the study indicated that Lean Management practices are relatively well-established in Polish manufacturing enterprises in each of the assessed areas. However, significant differences were observed between areas, with the highest levels of implementation observed in customer relationships and employee engagement, and the lowest in supplier relationships and pull/flow processes. Research limitations/implications: The primary limitations of the study lie in its reliance on self-assessment data and the potential bias of respondents. Additionally, the generalization of results is limited to a specific sample of Polish manufacturing enterprises. Nevertheless, the study provides valuable insights into the current state of Lean Management implementation in Poland and identifies areas for further development. Practical implications: The study suggests that Polish manufacturing enterprises should prioritize the continued implementation of lean practices in the areas of supplier relationships and pull/flow processes. This requires coordinated efforts to strengthen supplier relationships, optimize supply chain management, and implement lean production principles to eliminate waste and enhance efficiency. Originality/value: The study contributes to existing knowledge on Lean Management implementation by providing a comprehensive assessment of its current state in Polish manufacturing enterprises. The findings offer practical guidance for companies seeking ways to improve their Lean Management practices and derive associated benefits.

W kontekście celów założonych w przedsiębiorstwie, w związku z wdrażaniem koncepcji Lean, oceniono zakresy eliminacji poszczególnych typów marnotrawstwa, odnosząc się do zakresu wdrożenia poszczególnych narzędzi.
The presented paper is based on a case study2 realised in a huge service and production company, which produces plastics wares. Conducted researches were connected with efficiency level of project implementation, which regarded using Lean Manufacturing methodology. Authors analysed implementation range of methods and tools connected with Lean methodology, such as: 5S, SMED, TPM, Hoshin Kanri, Kaizen and Kanban as well as their meaning to elimination of various types of wastes. In the context of goals established by the company regarding implementation of Lean methodology, range of elimination of various types of mismanagement were evaluated in relation to range of using particular tools and methods. Opis:
Lean or Toyota Production System (TPS) has more or less successfully been implemented in the Western world's businesses and organizations for the past 20 years. Several authors have discussed what it is that creates a successful implementation, and several studies have been presented where strategies for implementations have been studied. Culture's impact and possible mitigation for Western companies have been studied and described by for example Womak & Jones. Proponents of the concept of Lean argue that culture is not a constraint for implementation of Lean. Lean Management is called a philosophy but it is often used as a change strategy in the sense that it is implemented with the view of improving performance. A change strategy could be seen as a product that might have to be customized with the view of improving the effectiveness of the implementation. On the other hand abandoning a standardized approach comes with the risk of severely altering the change strategy, possibly to its detriment. Implementing Lean will have an effect on the company culture. Does it make any sense customizing the implementation to culture if the issue is changing the culture? The purpose of this paper is to highlight and discuss the balance between a customized implementation and a standardized implementation. Which are the main arguments for standardization and customization and how could these be reconciled? A literature study of Lean implementation has been carried out and compared with Lean principles and theories from change management with focus on change drivers and change barriers. Main drivers of Hofstede's national cultural dimensions are compared with Lean principles to identify possible drivers and barriers in different cultures. The theory synthesis on drivers and barriers is subjected to a first test in a case study on Lean implementation according to a standardized approach. The implementation is made in a small Swedish factory belonging to a worldwide industrial company. Results from the literature review and the case study indicate that both customization and standardization are needed.

Opis:
One of the key factors of a competitive economy is creating a strong, internationally competitive SME sector. This essay is based on the fact that management tools used in the SME sector are insufficient. With the development of these tools, the competitiveness of companies could improve. According to the literature, using lean thinking has a positive influence on the company’s effectiveness, and also proved that lean approach can be successfully extended out of the car industry, into the limitedly resourced SME sector, too. Even though the topic of lean manufacturing is analysed by many studies, there is a lack of papers dealing with its usage in the SME sector. The originality of this paper lies in analysing the current status of using lean manufacturing practices among the Hungarian SMEs operating in the manufacturing industry. The paper includes an examination about how deeply the elements of lean thinking are present in the Hungarian SME sector, how large the development reserves are, and whether there is a difference between the usage of lean practices. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. SMEs’ representatives, mostly CEOs and managers from the Hungarian manufacturing industry participated in the survey. The sample contained 128 observations. The study has two control variables, which are the size of the company and the relation to the lean management. The survey brought the following results. First of all, it shows that the level of using lean is low among the Hungarian SMEs. Furthermore, customer orientation is a key factor in the sector, however, there are considerable possibilities for progress by the inner processes and the handling and involvement of the suppliers. Firstly, a good basis to increase the effectiveness could be the creation of thinking in processes influencing the supply chain. Secondly, the development of the leadership and the involvement of the employees at some level are also significant. Key findings is that without state incitement and the involvement of outside experts, progress cannot be expected to spread on a broad scope. The background of the research method was created to fit the available literature and to capable to be used in other countries, too. Moreover, this way the available information can be expanded with a regional dimension, in case further studies are going to be made.

Opis:
Purpose: The study aim is an in-depth investigation of a Lean tools implementation sequence in an organisation as an expression of a Lean journey within that organisation. The success factors of Lean tools implementation and the relationship between them are studied. A model of Lean tools implementation in an organisation is aimed to be developed. Design/methodology/approach: A case study method is employed in this study. It is conducted in a manufacturing company from the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry. The employed method allows exploitation of a variety of techniques in the investigation process: in-depth interviews, observations, documents and data analysis. The study takes into consideration a systematic literature review and bibliometric network analysis supported by the Vosviewer software tool. Findings: The implementation of Lean Manufacturing approach, along with accompanying tools and methods, is aimed at efficiency and/or quality results of the processes within a company. Selected tools, to be successfully implemented, should support the elimination or reduction of losses related to current process flows. There are many Lean tools available, but most do not fit all organisations and all the kinds of manufacturing processes. Therefore, proper preparation before implementation is an essential issue for any organisation striving for Lean outcomes. The available Lean tools, along with their implementation sequences, are not studied comprehensively in the literature. Originality/value: An organisational-development-driven model of Lean tools implementation is elaborated, based on the literature and empirical investigations. The decision to choose the appropriate Lean tool should be guided by general organisational development. Several factors need to be considered before the implementation process, namely, capabilities, resources, gains and return on expenditure. Top management engagement, appropriate communication and listening to line employees look to be key success factors in Lean tools implementation.

Opis:
Lean philosophy is one of the wide-ranging ways to promote efficiency while emphasizing a high level of awareness about the customer. Despite the attempts by multiple companies worldwide to implement partial or whole spectrum of the Lean concept for better performance, the failure rate in the Lean transformation among organizations reaches as high as 90%. The paper aims to identify the main challenges and barriers to Lean implementation in Lithuania and to provide proposals on how to facilitate it. To achieve this aim, the authors of the paper present a theoretical conceptual model that illustrates the main benefits, barriers, and proposals for successful Lean implementation. Based on the theoretical analysis, qualitative research in the form of semi-structured interviews based on open-ended questions was used. The results of empirical research revealed that most companies implement the Lean concept with the aim to reduce different types of waste, simplify the processes and make them more efficient, increase production capacity, and ensure more effective customer service. The most successful Lean tools addressing the existing problems are 5S (6S), process mapping, standardization, visual management, Kaizen, and Kanban. The main barriers which delay Lean transformations can be grouped into people-related, organizational, and process-related. Employee training, motivation, Lean leadership, and creation of an enabling culture could be the main recommendations for the facilitation of challenges and barriers to Lean implementation.
Najskuteczniejsze narzędzia Lean rozwiązujące istniejące problemy to 5S (6S), mapowanie procesów, standaryzacja, zarządzanie wizualne, Kaizen i Kanban. Szkolenie pracowników, motywacja, przywództwo Lean i tworzenie sprzyjającej kultury mogą być głównymi zaleceniami dotyczącymi ułatwiania wyzwań i barier we wdrażaniu Lean.

Opis:
Lean Green is a concept which is implemented as a part of the sustainable development strategy, share allowing for reduction of the company’s costs related to, on the one hand, efficient use of energy factors and on the other optimum use of production factors aimed at minimisation of wastefulness, in particular in the area of post-production waste and pollution. The purpose of the article is to identify the determinants, internal stimuli and to specify the force with which they affect the implementation of the Lean Green concept in companies on various continents: America, Asia and Europe. For the purpose of better recognition of the examined problem, analysis of results of studies was made in consideration of the following criteria: country where a given company operates and share of persons outside the company in the process of implementation of this concept. In article uses the one-way ANOVA methodology, the Shapiro Wilk and Levene tests and the non-parametric Kruskal Wallis test. Hitherto studies have confirmed that the determinants are regional, which indicates the necessity of directional studies.

Autorzy wybrali to narzędzie Lean Production (LP) związane z zarządzaniem wizualnym z uwagi na osobiste doświadczenie zawodowe w obszarze wdrożeń SFM w firmach produkcyjnych branży metalowej. Kolejną przesłanką wyboru SFM był zauważony i poparty badaniem literatury metodą analizy słów kluczowych niedobór publikacji w języku polskim dotyczący implementacji SFM w rodzimych przedsiębiorstwach. Autorzy podjęli próbę uzupełnienia zaobserwowanej luki wiedzy poprzez analizę wyselekcjonowanych artykułów wraz z zestawieniem wniosków z obserwacji uczestniczącej, doświadczenia zawodowego i własnych badań naukowych.
Effective and efficient management of the production workshop can provide the enterprise with a competitive advantage, and the elimination of waste becomes a priority. Therefore, the authors performed a literature review, the main purpose of which was to analyze publications related to the Shopfloor Management (SFM) method. The authors chose this visual management tool due to personal professional experience in SFM implementation. Another reason for choosing SFM was the shortage of Polish publications concerning the implementation of this method in domestic enterprises, which the authors noticed in their study of the literature using the keyword analysis method. The literature review showed a growing interest in the SFM method in highly developed countries and an increase in publications related to the assessment of the effects of its implementation in these countries, with a simultaneous shortage of research on Polish companies. The research gap found refers to insufficiently researched areas, such as those related to the SFM method or data visualization in the production workshop. The authors attempt to fill the observed knowledge gap by analyzing selected articles and their conclusions from participatory observation, professional experience and own scientific research. The study is addressed to both students of management and quality sciences as well as practitioners of Lean implementation in the organization of production systems. The undertaken research systematizes the structural model of the SFM method, and may form the conceptual basis for Lean implementation for practitioners in Poland.
